Please help! Another crisis! Family member ped away.?

Okay, long story short. My grandpa ped away and my boyfriend and his family were nice enough to come and stay the full time of the viewing and they were the only ones who sent such beautiful flowers I have ever seen in a very different shape. The flowers cost $200.00. Him and his family are very high cl. Instead of sending them one of the thank you cards that the funeral home provides you, I had to go and purchase regular thank you cards from the store and send them since they were very thoughtful by what they did. Well, I went and bought just a plain simple, nice card that only cost $2.00, BUT it had all the appropriate wording coming from my family. I always buy nice big expensive cards, but for this certain occion, they dont really sell sympathy thank you cards, so I got a regular one that sounded decent. If I went and bought a big extravagant expensive card, it wouldnt of had the correct wording. They were all too mushy and just werent right. So I bought a plainer cheap card and mailed it. My boyfriend received it in the mail today and went off on me telling me that how dare I send a cheap piece of crap card to his house after he and his family stayed the whole time and spent $200 on flowers! I did the right thing and went out and hand picked a card personally and it wasnt good enough for him! What does he want from me? Was he expecting just a personal more thoughtful card from me by myself maybe? But this was from my whole family with the appropriate wording. He told me that him and his mom didnt like the card. He took the card and ripped it! Please tell me who is wrong in this situation? Should I have done more? He makes me feel so bad and embared.He always has me over every weekend and the family does everything for me and treats me like their own. But was that still necessary?
