Will military experience benefit me to becoming a Texas State Trooper?

I was wondering if after completing BCT and my MOS that I'll I have to do is go to college for a couple of years and I'll be able to apply for a job as a Texas State Trooper. But I was wondering if a citation I had gotten when I was 17 will affect me or if there is any special courses I would need to take while in college that the job will require. I'm also wondering how rewarding the job is and what the dangers are for serving.
