How long will it take for my fiance to become legal?

I'm a US Citizen and i'm going to marry a man from Guatemala. He's been here for 8 years and came here on a visa. But the visa has expired and he's not legal anymore. When we marry I know it will be possible for him to become legal. But any idea on how long the process takes??
